Welcome to
the first installment of Kyle’s Korner Blog! As the year progresses I plan to
do many more blog posts relating to athletics here at Saint Martin’s. I’m very
excited about my opportunity to express the experiences that I have here at
school through athletics and my time as a student-athlete.
Let me give you
a little background information about myself. My name is Kyle Karnofski and I
am a 22 year old redshirt junior on the men’s basketball team. I am from a
small town in southwest Washington called Castle Rock with less than 2,000
people. Although my graduating class was very small and I knew almost everyone,
the experience was enjoyable. In high school I not only played basketball, but
football and baseball as well; lettering in all three in four years. Growing up
I knew that I wanted to play college basketball and I was given the chance when
Saints head coach Keith Cooper gave me the opportunity to join the team as a
walk on in the fall of 2009.
Here is a glimpse of how I spent some of my time here over winter break.

Throughout
the rest of the year and next year I plan to continue working towards my degree
in secondary education, in hopes of being a coach and teaching high school
English in the future. As well as having interests in teaching, I am also
intrigued by the idea of becoming a sports journalist for a newspaper, magazine,
or website. I brought up the idea of writing stories to the sports
information director Katie Simons and she came up with the idea of starting a blog.
While also having the blog, I plan to do special features on athletes, game recaps, athlete player profiles, and what it’s like to be a student-athlete here at Saint Martin’s. One of my goals is to try and shed light on what it's like to be a student-athlete; balancing athletics and academics.
Look for
more stories and insights in the weeks to come as I will be doing more blog
posts and updates on Saints athletics.
